This Year in Nonprofit Law - November 16

Nonprofit Issues® and the Philadelphia law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads will present the 16th “This Year in Nonprofit Law” on Thursday, November 16.

Erica Greeley, Deputy Director of the national Council of Nonprofit Associations, will report on developments from the Nonprofit Congress and the effort to coordinate nonprofits into a national movement to improve their effectiveness, promote advocacy, and encourage support for the sector.

The full-day program will follow the traditional format. The first session will review the major legal developments of the last year, including changes in charitable giving and other rules recently enacted by Congress, lessons to be learned from the continuing scrutiny of charitable hospitals, IRS imposition of excess benefit taxes, developments under Sarbanes-Oxley, indemnification, and other current developments.

The first round of afternoon breakout sessions will feature Tish Mogan of PANO explaining what we have learned from the Standards for Excellence program, discussion of alternate dispute resolution and peer mediation, and charitable giving. The second round will include legal audit, employee benefit law, and a LOST board meeting.

The program provides 5 hours of continuing CLE credit, and 5 hours of CPE credit for accountants in Pennsylvania.

Participants will receive a new or renewed subscription to the electronic version of Nonprofit Issues, plus a notebook of articles, outlines and other citations. The program starts at 9 a.m. and runs to 3:45. The registration fee is $145 for the first participant from an organization and $85 for each additional registrant. Lawyers requesting Pennsylvania CLE credit must pay an additional $10 for processing.
