Court Tells Barnes Trustees to Try Again
The 'total absence of hard numbers' prevents evaluating proposed move of collection
A Montgomery County (PA) Orphans' Court has told the Barnes Foundation trustees to go back to the drawing board to develop facts and feasibility studies to show that it is necessary and feasible to move the world-class collection of French Impressionist paintings and other artifacts to downtown Philadelphia from its present location in suburban Merion.
The Court said it "has been seriously hamstrung by the total absence of hard numbers" in evaluating the trustees' claim that it is impractical to function under the Barnes' current restrictions and the only alternative is such a move. ( In re: The Barnes Foundation , No. 58788, 1/29/04.)
