A church in Indiana has been ordered to pay retirement benefits to its founding pastor and his son, the successor senior pastor, according to provisions of the church’s Constitution ratified by the members and not according to prior specific employment agreements. The state Court of Appeals has said the church is obligated even though the pastors had left the church to found a new church and had taken about half the membership with them.
