Who has standing to bring suit on behalf of an unincorporated nonprofit association to pursue the rights of the association?

That was the question facing courts in Missouri after the Missouri Baptist Convention, the Executive Board of the Convention (a separate corporation), and six churches affiliated with the Convention filed suit in September 2002 to prevent the secession of several Baptist institutions. The institutions had all amended their governing instruments to create self-perpetuating Boards and eliminate the right of the Convention to elect or appoint directors for the institutions.
