Illinois AG proposes legislation
to require charity care from hospitals
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D) has proposed two pieces of legislation to “significantly improve the way hospitals do business in Illinois.”
One bill would require that nonprofit hospitals provide “charity care” equal to at least 8% of their annual operating costs. The other would impose various disclosure obligations and requirements on patient billing practices.
