Fundraisers report surprising interest in IRA rollover,
but won’t generally face new responsibilities until January
Congress passed some temporary incentives for charitable giving and some permanent new requirements for accountability by both donors and charities as part of the recent pension protection legislation enacted in August. (See Ready Reference Page: “Congress Passes Charitable Reforms.”)
Many fundraisers in the Philadelphia area have reported surprising interest and a surge in gifts under the IRA rollover provisions. They generally have not had to deal with the new limitations, most of which will not go into effect until January.
