Understanding What’s Covered, Why and How: Reviewing Your Insurance Policies Step by Step

An increasingly common question from participants in recent workshops I've presented goes something like this, "What can I do to survive the current hard insurance market?" Or, "Is there anything I can do to get a handle on our insurance coverage?" 

One of the first things I tell someone posing that question is that there is no time like the present to commit to understanding your nonprofit's insurance program. For myriad reasons, many of us have put off becoming familiar with our insurance policies, choosing instead to rely on what our agent told us the policies cover, blind faith, or absolute trust in our outside advisors.
