How much of the compensation paid to a charity’s fundraising director is considered “wages” required to be paid to the employee under the District of Columbia Wage Payment Collection Law? The questions arose recently in a case brought by the fundraiser at Clean the World Foundation, an organization headquartered in Florida but employing the fundraiser in Washington, D.C. Nikola Sobot was hired on August 1, 2019. His initial annual salary was $110,000, but he was promised a raise to $120,000 if he personally raised $100,000 in “new funds” and to $125,000 if he personally raised $150,000 in new funds.
