Can 501(c)(3) status carry over to replicated organization?

I am currently working for a 501(c)(3) organization and we are looking to replicate the model in other sites. Will the 501(c)(3) status carry over to the replicated organization or will papers need to be filed again?

If you create a new organization for each site, you will have to apply for (c)(3) status for each of them separately. You may want to consider a group exemption if you intend to do several. (See Ready Reference Page: “Group Exemption Can Ease Burden on Affiliates.”) You may be able to do everything within the same corporate structure, however.
