Alumnae lack standing to contest co-education at DOE

Alumnae of Wilson College in Pennsylvania have no standing to contest the state Department of Education’s approval of the College’s decision to become co-educational, the state’s Commonwealth Court has ruled. They have no personal interest that is affected by the Department’s decision, the Court said. Wilson College, which was founded as a women’s college in 1869, has had financial issues since the 1970s. Over the years, it tried many things to increase enrollment and stability, including expanding a continuing education program for both women and men. But it retained the undergraduate residential program for women only until the trustees voted in 2013 to amend its articles of incorporation...
