A Catholic nursing home in Washington is not prevented from claiming exemption from the state’s antidiscrimination law because its Equal Opportunity Employment policy, given to new employees upon hire, states that it will not discriminate on the basis of disability, a federal District Court in Washington had held. A nursing assistant, who lost a finger after a workplace accident, filed a disability discrimination complaint against the home under the Washington Law Against Discrimination (”WLAD”).
