The CFO of two affiliated nonprofit housing developers has been denied whistleblower protection under the federal False Claims Act. A federal District Court in New York City has concluded that the CFO had been legitimately fired for general insubordination and not for complaining about alleged fraud. Daniel Forkell was hired as CFO to clean up accounting irregularities at two affiliated low-income housing developers in December 2008 after an anonymous complaint triggered an audit by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
