The federal District Court in the District of Columbia has affirmed the retroactive revocation of charitable exemption of a scholarship foundation that operated for the private benefit of a single family. After Julius Schaller died in 2003, one of the executors of his estate formed the Educational Assistance Foundation for the Descendants of Hungarian Immigrants in the Performing Arts and obtained 501(c)(3) recognition to provide scholarships to students who are descendants from an immigrant from Hungary or Eastern Europe.
