A federal District Court in Kentucky has upheld a National Labor Relations Board order requiring a nonprofit healthcare provider in Louisville to reinstate a mental health associate who was fired after she sought to promote the union during work hours. Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Health-Care, Inc., doing business as Our Lady of Peace, operates two hospitals in Louisville and several off-site facilities, including a psychiatric residential treatment facility for adolescents. We were walking in Center City Philadelphia on the Saturday night before St. Patrick’s Day. We thought it was pretty nice that the police had closed off a full block of one of the major streets for a neighborhood St. Patrick’s Day party. We really felt quite safe, until we saw that one of the squad cars parked on the sidewalk was from the city’s Counter Terrorism Unit.
