The Michigan Court of Appeals has granted real estate tax exemption to a thrift shop that sells donated merchandise and gives the net profits to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association. The City had argued that it failed to offer its charity on a nondiscriminatory basis because it provided the proceeds only to the Association. But the Court said that the funds were to be used for tuition reduction at the various schools run by the Association and that “any family who wants to send their child to a Christian school in Kalamazoo will benefit from the donations because tuition reduction is available to every student.
