Teacher’s aide fired for Facebook post

A male teacher’s assistant at a nonprofit pre-school program has been unable to prove gender bias to save his job after being fired for an offensive Facebook posting about a family custody matter. Lawrence Smizer was employed as an aide at the Community Mennonite Early Learning Center in Illinois from 1993 to 2010. His mother Jackie Smizer became executive director in 1999. His grandmother was a volunteer at the Center. In 2010, he was apparently engaged in a family dispute over his sister’s attempt to regain custody of her teenaged son and posted a nasty note of Facebook denouncing “all my family” who fought against his sister.
