I am the president of a nonprofit football league and also a photographer. I take photographs for several teams in the league and sell copies to parents if they want them. I don't get paid by the league. I was told that I would have to either stop taking the pictures or resign my position as president because this activity is illegal. Is there such a law?
You obviously have situation that many will consider a conflict of interest, but such a conflict is not usually illegal. Some organizations have internal policies which absolutely forbid conflicted transactions but most simply require disclosure and approval by a majority of disinterested members or directors. I would put the burden on those who claim your activity is illegal to show you the law which says so. I think they will have a hard time finding it.
