The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has affirmed a District Court decision granting summary judgment to dismiss a sexual assault case brought against a Roman Catholic Diocese beyond the statute of limitations. The plaintiff claimed that she had been assaulted in 1987, when she was 23 years old, but had repressed the memory and rediscovered it in 2006 when one of her “alternate personalities” revealed it to a friend. The woman testified that she had been abused by her father, mother and other men throughout her childhood and had been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and other serious mental illnesses.
