Appellate courts in Michigan and California have affirmed convictions for illegal charitable solicitations, confirming that enforcement does occasionally exist. In Michigan, an individual responded to a business opportunity ad in a local newspaper. He purchased candy dispensing boxes that featured a 25-cent coin slot and a compartment for dispensing candy. Each box also contained a sticker with a picture of a missing child and biographical information.
