Lawyer disciplined for bi-state practice, misleading communication

An attorney admitted to practice in Illinois but not in Indiana has been disciplined for offering to help patients of Indiana hospitals to collect from insurance to help pay their hospital bills. The Supreme Court of Indiana has approved an indefinite prohibition on the lawyer’s practice in Indiana for the unlicensed practice and for misleading communications with the patients. The attorney had an arrangement with Franciscan Alliance, which operated 2 hospitals in Illinois and 11 in Indiana. He was hired in 2011 by Franciscan to help in obtaining payment from patients who had been injured in accidents.
