Reduction of tithes in divorce settlement is not unconstitutional

The Supreme Court of Delaware has held that a trial court’s reduction of the amount of wife’s stated voluntary charitable contributions for purposes of calculating her alimony obligation did not prevent her from satisfying her tithing obligation or otherwise infringe upon her religious freedom. At the time of the hearing, the wife was a school principal earning about $110,000 a year. The husband, who had been an engineer, had been injured and was earning only $2000 because of his injury and other health conditions.
